Gallipoli Cognato and Lucanian Dolomites Park: Accettura is one of the five towns of the Park. Turkey oak woods, trails for walking and cycling, and the Park headquarters at Palazzo, on the road to the Basentana.
The Maggio of Accettura (at Pentecost, between May and June): the tree rite in honour of Saint Julian. The oak chosen in the Montepiano wood is hauled into the village by oxen, the holly crown comes from the Gallipoli wood, and on the Tuesday after Pentecost the two are joined and raised in the square. The village fills up in those days: book early.
Pietrapertosa and Castelmezzano (40-45 min): villages among the peaks of the Lucanian Dolomites, linked by the Flight of the Angel, a zip-line open in the warmer months.
Aliano and Craco (45 min - 1 hour): the badlands village where Carlo Levi was confined, and the abandoned village of Craco, a set for many films.
Matera (about 1h30): the Sassi, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to explore on foot.
Ionian coast (about 1h30): the beaches of Metaponto and Policoro, and the archaeological park of Metaponto with the Tavole Palatine temple.
Pollino National Park (about 2 hours): a day of hiking among the Bosnian pines.
Local flavours: farms and local producers for cheeses, cured meats, olive oil and Lucanian wines.
